Business Idea Viability Check
Can this idea cover your costs at realistic sales volumes? Enter price, conversion rate, and monthly overheads. Podge returns customers needed.
What this means
No waffle. Just the number and how it was worked out.
Formula used
Customers needed per month = (target income + overheads) ÷ price per sale. Visitors needed = customers needed ÷ conversion rate.
Worked example
Targeting £3,000/month profit, selling a £50 service, 2% conversion rate, £200/month overheads: 64 customers/month needed, 3,200 visitors/month needed — tough but achievable with consistent content or ads.
Common questions
What conversion rate should I use?
Industry average for e-commerce is 1–3%. Service businesses with warm leads can see 10–20%. Cold traffic to a new website is typically under 1%. Use the realistic lower end when planning.
The number of customers needed looks achievable — should I quit my job?
Not on the basis of a single projection. The tool shows whether the math works. Whether you can actually reach those customers, at that conversion rate, is a separate question that needs a realistic plan.
