Tip Calculator
Work out the right tip based on country norms, service quality, and the number of people — with per-person totals including tip.
What this means
This tool applies country-specific tip norms adjusted for service quality, then splits the total including tip across the number of people.
Formula used
Tip % = country base rate + (service quality − 5) × 1.5%. Tip amount = bill × tip %. Per person = (bill + tip) ÷ people.
Worked example
£85 bill for 3 people, service 8/10, UK — suggested tip 11.5%, tip £9.78, each person pays £31.59.
Common questions
What if service charge is already added?
Tick the service included box and the tool will treat the bill as already covering it. You are not obliged to tip on top of a mandatory service charge.
Does the tip go to the staff directly?
Not always. Ask the venue whether tips go directly to servers or into a shared pool that may include management. In the UK, a mandatory service charge does not automatically go to staff.
